Sabah El Nour, a solo exhibition by FLORE - 14th May, 2025

Tintera is pleased to present the opening of Sabah El Nour, the first solo exhibition in Egypt by the French/Spanish photographer FLORE. The daughter of painter Olga Gimeno, Flore first came to Egypt as a young child accompanying her mother on a trip that began abruptly in Tangiers after the sudden departure of her father. For a few years Alexandria was their home and those early years spent on the shores of the Mediterranean, bathed in its light, left an imprint on Flore that she carries with her till today.

The exhibition brings together works from different series all created during Flore’s extensive travels throughout Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Morocco, Andalusia and Tunisia. But Flore’s work is not a chronicle of a journey but traces of a dream. Familiar landmarks dissolve, and in their place we enter a landscape of memory - enveloped in light, suspended in feeling. These are photographs not of where she was but how she remembers it feels to be there.

FLORE, (b.1963, France) is a French/Spanish photographer who lives and works in Paris. After working for ten years for the national press, she devoted herself exclusively to her personal work in 2008. Her work is produced over time, often during her travels, and she employs alternative methods of printing using modern as well as historical techniques. Her work has been acquired and presented in various prestigious institutions such as the Musée du Petit Palais, the BNF, the MMP+ in Marrakech, the Rivesaltes Memorial, and at international art fairs. She is the winner of several important prizes in photography such as the Prix Nadar (2020), Prix Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière – Académie des beaux-arts (2018), and Prix Photofolies, Rodez (1998). FLORE has several monographs, Une femme française en Orient (A French Woman in the Orient), 2014, Lointains Souvenirs (Distant Memories), 2016, and Camp de Rivesaltes, lieu de douleur (Camp of Rivesaltes, a Place of Suffering), 2018. Alongside her artistic activities, FLORE is an educator who regularly gives workshops and is represented by several galleries worldwide.
