Mohamed Mahdy

Mohamed Mahdy (Egypt b. 1996) is a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Alexandria whose work concentrates on the buried and unseen communities of Egypt. He believes that it is by immersing himself in disparate communities and revealing these stories that he his able to permanently place them within the context of the larger community. In 2018 he was named by the NY Times Lens blog as one of 12 emerging photographers to know. Mahdy is the recipient of several grants, scholarships and awards and in 2021 was awarded the Magnum Foundation “Photography & Social justice” Fellowship.
